The limitations of central nervous systemdirected gene transfer.Beverly L. Davidson - 1995 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 18 (1):54-55.
Complementation and correction of a genetic defect with CNS manifestations lags behind gene therapy for inherited disorders affecting other organ systems because of shortcomings in delivery vehicles and access to the CNS. The effects of improvements in viral and nonviral vectors, coupled with the development of delivery strategies designed to transfer genetic material thoughout the CNS are being investigated by a number of laboratories in efforts to overcome these problems.

Convergences: Black Feminism and Continental Philosophy.Maria del Guadalupe Davidson, Kathryn T. Gines & Donna-Dale L. Marcano (eds.) - 2010 - SUNY Press.
A range of themes—race and gender, sexuality, otherness, sisterhood, and agency—run throughout this collection, and the chapters constitute a collective discourse at the intersection of Black feminist thought and continental philosophy, converging on a similar set of questions and concerns. These convergences are not random or forced, but are in many ways natural and necessary: the same issues of agency, identity, alienation, and power inevitably are addressed by both camps. Never before has a group of scholars worked together to examine (...)

    Toward the Construction of a Theory of Political Action. [REVIEW]Beverly L. Kahn - 1987 - Idealistic Studies 17 (3):273-275.
This book originated as a doctoral dissertation and, as such, it exhibits the awkwardness of style that one frequently finds in dissertations: incoherent paragraphs, bold unsubstantiated generalizations, crucial concepts employed without explicit definition, excessive progress reports. There are also numerous typographical errors—an average of one per page. At a minimum, one must conclude that this book was poorly edited.

The use of “shark repellents” to prevent corporate takeovers: An ethical perspective. [REVIEW]Nancy L. Meade & Dan Davidson - 1993 - Journal of Business Ethics 12 (2):83 - 92.
Certain types of corporate charter antitakeover amendments, or shark repellents, may not serve the interests of the stockholders or the stakeholders of the firm. This paper extends the examination of the use of shark repellents by taking an ethical perspective to synthesize prior research on shark repellents and their relationship to stockholder and stakeholder welfare. Some shark repellents seem to benefit certain interest groups at the expense of other groups.

Decolonising the Earth: Anticolonial Environmentalism and the Soil of Empire.Joe P. L. Davidson & Filipe Carreira da Silva - forthcoming - Theory, Culture and Society.
The relationship between humanity and the soil is an increasingly important topic in social theory. However, conceptualisations of the soil developed by anticolonial thinkers at the high point of the movement for self-determination between the 1940s and the 1970s have remained largely ignored. This is a shame, not least because theorists like Eric Williams, Walter Rodney, Suzanne Césaire and Amílcar Cabral were concerned with the soil. Building on recent work on human-soil relations and decolonial ecology, we argue that these four (...)

    Is There a Special E-Commerce Ethics?Beverly Kracher & Cynthia L. Corritore - 2004 - Business Ethics Quarterly 14 (1):71-94.
The speed and degree to which e- commerce is infiltrating the very fabric of our society, faster and more pervasively than any other entity in history, makes an examination of its ethical dimensions critical. Though ethical lag has heretofore hindered ourexplorations of e- commerce ethics, it is now time to identify and confront them. In this paper we define e- commerce and describe thecharacteristics that set it apart from traditional brick and-mortar business. We then examine the ethical foundation of e- (...)

My utopia is your utopia? William Morris, utopian theory and the claims of the past.Joe P. L. Davidson - 2019 - Thesis Eleven 152 (1):87-101.
This article examines the relationship between utopian production and reception via a reading of the work of the great utopian author and theorist William Morris. This relationship has invariably been defined by an inequality: utopian producers have claimed unlimited freedom in their attempts to imagine new worlds, while utopian recipients have been asked to adopt such visions as their own without question. Morris’s work suggests two possible responses to this inequality. One response, associated with theorist Miguel Abensour, is to liberate (...)

Stock market reactions to announced corporate illegalities.Wallace N. Davidson, Dan L. Worrell & Chun I. Lee - 1994 - Journal of Business Ethics 13 (12):979-987.
Extending the work of Davidson and Worrell, we further investigate the stock market''s reaction to announced corporate illegalities. We examine a sample of 535 announcements of corporate crime and obtain an overall insignificant stock market reaction. However, when the sample is divided by type of crime, we find that the stock market reacts significantly to announcements of bribery, tax evasion, and violations of government contracts. We also find a significantly negative reaction to announcements of corporate crime when the company (...)

A foundation for understanding online trust in electronic commerce.Beverly Kracher, Cynthia L. Corritore & Susan Wiedenbeck - 2005 - Journal of Information, Communication and Ethics in Society 3 (3):131-141.
Trust is a key concept in business, particularly in electronic commerce. In order to understand online trust, one must first study trust research conducted in the offline world. The findings of such studies, dating from the 1950’s to the present, provide a foundation for online trust theory in e‐commerce. This paper provides an overview of the existing trust literature from the fields of philosophy, psychology, sociology, management, and marketing. Based on these bodies of work, online trust is briefly explored. The (...)

    Retrotopian feminism: the feminist 1970s, the literary utopia and Sarah Hall’s The Carhullan Army.Joe P. L. Davidson - 2023 - Feminist Theory 24 (2):243-261.
In recent years, there has been increasing discontent with feminism’s understanding of its own history and, more specifically, the place of the feminist 1970s. Feminist scholars – most prominently, Elizabeth Freeman, Victoria Hesford, Kate Eichhorn and Kathi Weeks – have sought to move beyond the feelings of progress and nostalgia that the feminist 1970s often inspires. There is a need to mediate between the urge to leave the past behind and the desire to return to it, with feminists adopting positions (...)

Dub, Utopia and the Ruins of the Caribbean.Joe P. L. Davidson - 2022 - Theory, Culture and Society 39 (1):3-22.
The weathered stone, collapsed lintels and hollow roofs of the ruin have long evoked a sense of pathos, standing as monuments to the disastrous contours of history and the possibility of alternative futures. In this article, I ask: What is the meaning of the ruin in the postcolonial context of the Caribbean? There are few physical ruins in the Caribbean, resulting in a feeling of lack: the architectural landscape fails to speak to the catastrophes of slavery and colonialism. Dub, a (...)
